Treating Loss of Appetite
-
1
Take a multivitamin to ensure you are receiving an adequate amount of nutrients. Getting your body healthy will often help stimulate your appetite.
-
2
Change your diet. If you are having a hard time eating because food isn't appealing to you, seek out foods that are palatable. If you are not eating at all, the goal should be to get calories in your body. Don't focus too much on what foods you get those calories from.
-
3
Shrink your portion sizes if it has been more than 24 hours since you have eaten. Sometimes the digestive system needs to be reintroduced to food slowly, otherwise nausea, gas, pain and sometimes vomiting may occur. Eating smaller meals more frequently is less likely to cause stomach upset or pain.
-
4
Drink more water. Believe it or not, dehydration can cause appetite loss. Make sure you are getting at least six to eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day.
-
5
Evaluate your health. If you are not feeling up to par mentally or physically, a visit to the doctor may be in order. Oftentimes, there is an underlying cause of appetite loss that you may be overlooking.
