How to Cope With the Effects of Bulimia
Bulimia is when someone binge-eats a few times a day by eating 3,000 to 5,000 calories in one sitting and then tries to get rid of all they've eaten by taking a laxative, vomiting or exercising profusely to burn the calories they consumed. The effects of bulimia take a toll on your physical and mental health.Instructions

Visit your doctor to ensure your body is functioning properly. Bulimia patients experience side effects such as heart problems like an irregular heartbeat, weakened heart muscles and a low pulse. You also can suffer from stomach ulcers, sores in your throat, an irregular or missing period, constipation or kidney failure. All of these are side effects of bulimia, and some can be fatal if you don't get treatment.

2
Seek psychological help to cope with the side effects of bulimia. Bulimia often starts because of issues such as depressed feelings, poor body image and anxiety, but all these problems can get worse through bulimia. A psychologist can help you to get these feelings and issues under control as well as help you determine the trigger for your binging and purging. You'll then gain the self-esteem you need.

Use baking soda to clean your teeth immediately after you vomit. If baking soda isn't available, use plain water to rinse your teeth. A main side effect of bulimia is tooth damage when stomach acid softens the tooth enamel, which causes bigger problems down the line. Baking soda isn't a long-term problem solver. If you continue to vomit, your teeth will continue to weaken.
