How to Eat Ginger to Treat Appetite Loss

Ginger root is well known for its positive effects on digestion. It helps to prevent gas and stomach irritation. You can also eat ginger to treat appetite loss. Adding it to your diet every day may improve your appetite, whether the loss is caused by surgery, illness, depression or medication side effects.

Instructions

    • 1

Peel a small piece of ginger and add a few drops of lemon and some black pepper to make a paste. Eat this on an empty stomach, once daily, for about 2 weeks. It make you want to eat more.

    • 2

Grind a small amount of ginger and add a dash of salt. Lick it or eat it once a day. This is another home remedy that may treat your appetite loss.

    • 3

Make tea from ginger and drink it daily. Simmer 1 tsp. of fresh ginger root in 2 cups of hot water for a few minutes, and then remove it from the heat. Add ¼ tsp. each of peppermint leaf, anise seed and cinnamon. Steep it for 20 minutes and remove the ginger. Drink 1 or 2 cups of this tea each day.

    • 4

Eat crystallized ginger just before meals or drink some real ginger ale (the non-alcoholic kind with real ginger root in it). It may make you want to consume more calories.

    • 5

Eat ginger with sweet dishes for a unique flavor. While it is most often used in spicy Asian dishes, ginger goes well in certain desserts, such as in raspberry-cinnamon torte, gingerbread cookies and ginger snaps.

    • 6

Grate some fresh, peeled ginger root. You can also freeze it first to make grating easier. Add it to stir-fried dishes and sauces to stimulate your appetite.

    • 7

Avoid drinking too much liquid at mealtime when you are treating your appetite loss with ginger or any other natural cure. While you need plenty of fluids each day, filling up on them during mealtime may leave you little room for solid food.
