How to Insert Synergy Lens

Inserting and removing contact lenses is a fairly simple process depending on the whether the lens is soft or rigid, but Synergy lenses are a unique type of lens that combines both materials. Synergy contacts are called hybrid lenses because they combine a soft material at the outside of the lenses and the center is made from a rigid material. There are several ways to insert a Synergy contact lens.

Instructions

  1. Inserting Synergy Lenses With Your Fingers

    • 1

Wash hands thoroughly before handling contact lenses. If you are working over a table or counter, lay a towel on the surface. If you are working over a sink, close the drain. Place a mirror on the towel because you look down, into the mirror to insert your lens.

    • 2

Start with the right eye. Rinse your lens with saline solution or the solution recommended by your eye doctor. Synergy lenses do not turn inside out like regular soft lenses so there is no need to worry about whether or not the lens is flipped or inverted. However, you should make sure the edges of the lens are smooth.

    • 3

Use the two-finger method to insert the lens. Place the lens on the tips of the index and middle fingers so the lens is balanced on both fingers. Fill the well of the lens to the top with rinsing or saline solution recommended by your eye doctor.

    • 4

Tuck your chin down so you are looking straight into the mirror on the table. Reach over your head with your other hand and gently pull and hold your upper right eyelid up. Hold your lower lid open with the tip of your ring finger. Place the lens gently on the eye, over the iris, the colored part of the eye. Close your eye and let the lens settle into place.

    • 5

Use the three-finger method for insertion by balancing the contact on the tips of the middle and index fingers and also the tip of the thumb. This gives you more stability if the two-finger method does not work.

    • 6

      Repeat with the left lens.

Insert Synergy Lenses With A DMV Tool

    • 7

Use a DMV inserting tool if you cannot use your fingers to put in your Synergy lenses. DMV tools are available at eye care retail and medical offices. Place the right lens on the tool and fill the lens with rinsing solution.

    • 8

Hold your upper lid open with the index finger of your other hand and pull your lower lid down with the thumb of the same hand. Bend your chin down and look straight into the mirror. Insert the lens gently onto the eye and close your lids around the lens.

    • 9

      Repeat with the left lens.
