How to Take Scratches Off an Eye Glasses Lens

Eyeglasses are an expensive investment that, for many, need to last a few years before replacement. Most lenses are created out of durable polycarbonate or plastic materials which tend to resist damage. However,scratches on your lenses can still develop over time, which can reduce visibility. Luckily, there are several techniques for helping to remove these fine scratches from your eyeglass lenses.

Things You'll Need

  • Microfiber cloths
  • Metal polish, spray
  • Lukewarm water
  • Furniture polish, spray
  • Toothpaste
  • Carnauba wax

Instructions

    • 1

      Spray both sides of the scratched lens with the metal polish. Rub the product into the lens to polish away the scratch. Rinse with lukewarm water once complete.

      Spray both sides of the lens with furniture polish. Buff the product into the scratch using gentle, circular motions. Rinse with water once the scratch has diminished.

      Squeeze a pea-sized amount of cream toothpaste directly onto the scratch. Using your cloth. Rub the paste into the scratch in tiny, circular motions. Avoid using a toothpaste that contains baking soda or whitening agents as these can damage the surface of your lens. Rinse with water once the scratch has been improved.

      Press a pea-sized amount of wax into the scratches on each side of the lens. Use your cloth to gently ease the wax into the crevices created by the scratches. This will even the surface of the lens and cause the scratches to become less visible.

      Visit your eye care professional for lens refinishing or replacement. If the scratches are too deep, too severe or your lenses are not responding to any of the techniques listed, ask your eye care professional for assistance.
