Can I Put a Progressive Lens in a Rimless Frame?
Rimless frames are lightweight alternatives to standard eyeglass frames. Rimless frames use small screws, nylon filament or pins to attach the lenses to the frames. The lenses in rimless frames can be single vision, bifocals or progressive lenses.-
History
-
Progressive lenses were first developed by Own Aves in 1907. He applied for and received a patent in Britain for these lenses. The lenses were manufactured in Montreal in 1922. In 1953 the lenses were named Varilux. As of October 2010, progressive lenses provide seamless bifocal vision for many who need reading glasses.
Technology
-
As of October 2010, most progressive lenses are made by computer-driven equipment. The early lenses were not as accurate as contemporary lenses. Computers eliminate much of the human error when used in manufacturing, and lenses are no exception.
Advantages
-
The progressive lenses have no bifocal line to interfere with vision. The lenses employ gradually changes in the the prescription so that users can see clearly at different focal lengths. Rimless frames can be the most lightweight frames for corrective eye glasses, minimizing the chances of the glasses causing irritation on the nose or ears.
