Transition Lenses That Darken in the Car

Transition lenses are used in glasses and transition to sunglasses when you come into contact with UV rays. Driving poses a problem for the effectiveness of these lenses because some windshields block UV rays. This means that your glasses will not darken because even though it is bright, you're not receiving UV rays. Some types of transition lenses can correct this.
  1. Drivewear

    • Drivewear glasses are the best transition lenses for driving. These have polarized technology which reduces the sun glare in your glasses. These lenses also are sensitive to both the brightness of light and the UV rays. These are the most high-tech transition lenses available.

    Photocramatic Lenses

    • Photocromatic lenses are similar to drivewear lenses, with one big difference: there is no polarization. These lenses still darken for sunlight and UV light. However, they do not protect against glare. They are still good choices in terms of transition lenses because they do dim some to protect your eyes from the sunlight.

    XTRActive Lenses

    • The transitions XTRActive lenses are like the photochromatic lenses but they get much dimmer than other transitions lenses. These will not only tint inside cars, but also indoors if you are very sensitive to light. The photochromatic lenses cause them to darken in just about any light, but the extra sensitivity lets them tint in low light as well.
