LCD Monitors & Eye Strain
Liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors are currently the most popular monitors used by the computing population in the United States. Natural Home Eye Care says computers are the main cause of eye strain, also known as computer vision syndrome.-
Positioning
-
Improper positioning of the monitor can cause eye strain. Lower the monitor screen below eye level to prevent strain. Locate the screen at least 16 inches from the eyes, but the ideal distance is 24 inches away.
Lighting
-
Make sure your work area has appropriate lighting. Also, keep the brightness and contrast of the monitor balanced. The monitor's screen should not glow too brightly or be too dark. Use an anti-glare screen to manage glare.
Break Time
-
Rest your eyes every 20 minutes for two to three minutes. Don't look at the computer screen for more than two hours at a time. Blinking frequently keeps your eyes moist. A high-resolution monitor also helps to eliminate eye strain.
Symptoms
-
Common eye strain symptoms from computer use include: heavy, tired eyes; burning, dry eyes; blurry vision; watery eyes; and headaches.
