How to Put in Multifocal Contacts

Multifocal contact lenses differ from traditional contacts in that they have two different magnification levels. This allows the wearer to see clearly at long distances and close up. The two magnification areas are positioned on the contact according to your prescription needs so that transitioning between long and short distances is seamless. Multifocal contacts come in both daily wear and extended wear varieties. Putting in a pair of multifocal contacts is just like putting in any other type of contacts.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hands thoroughly using non-scented soap and water. Rinse all of the soap residue off of your hands and dry them on a lint-free towel.

    • 2

Stand in front of a mirror and place the contact lens case and a bottle of saline solution in front of you.

    • 3

Open the right side of the contact lens case and remove the lens from the solution gently with the pad of your finger. Place the contact on one finger and look at the shape of it. It should look like a deep bowl. If the contact looks like a shallow dish, it is inside out. Gently use your fingers to reverse the lens if it is inside out.

    • 4

Place the lens in the palm of your hand and rinse it off with 1 to 2 tsp. of contact lens solution.

    • 5

Position the contact with the edges facing upward on the tip of the index finger on your dominant hand

    • 6

Use the opposite index finger to pull the lashes of the right eye upward toward your eyebrow. Use the middle finger of the hand with the contact to pull down on the lower section of the eye.

    • 7

Move the index finger with the contact gently towards your eye until you touch it. Pull your finger back gently and release your upper and lower eyelid.

    • 8

Repeat the process to insert the left multifocal lens in your left eye.
