Eye Power Reduction Exercises

Many people do not realise how much strain is put on their eyes on a daily basis. Strained eyes can lead to headaches and impaired vision. Much of our day is spent in front of a screen, whether it be a computer, television or cell phone. In order to slow down the deterioration of your eyes and lessen strain on them, these simple exercises will serve to benefit your vision.
  1. Peripheral Sunning

    • This is an outdoor exercise to be done on a sunny day. Look up into the sky just below the sun (do not stare directly as the sun). Slowly move your head left but keep your eyes just underneath the sun. Then slowly move your head to the right. Repeat these movements for two minutes. This exercise utilises the sunlight to reach every part of your eye to strengthen your peripheral vision.

    Ocular Development

    • This technique boosts the vertical and horizontal muscle power of your eyes. Move your eyes up and down ten times, then do the same only side to side. Change up the speed at which you do this exercise - it will help refine the muscles in a different way.

    Distance Focus

    • Using a picture or poster on the wall, this relaxation activity will help you with focus. Stand a foot away from the image or object and focus on it for 10 seconds. Take one step back and focus again for 10 seconds. Repeat this step until you are 10 feet away.

    10-10-10 Rule

    • Using this rule will help your eyes when too much time has been spent in front of a monitor or television. After 10 minutes of focusing on a close object look at an object 10 feet away for 10 seconds. This allows your eyes to take a break before having to refocus on the close object.

    Spa Treatment

    • Find a quiet room and lay down in a relaxing horizontal position. Place something cool on your eye lids such as cucumber slices or cotton pads soaked in witch hazel. Stay in this position for 10 to 20 minutes allowing your eyes to completely relax.
