Side Effects
-
Ocuvite is a supplement and, like medications and other supplements, it can cause side effects. If your formula of Ocuvite contains iron, do not take Ocuvite with antacids. Talk to your doctor of Ocuvite causes stomach-upset side effects, constipation and/or diarrhea. As your body adjusts to Ocuvite, these side effects should lessen. If you experience these for a while, your doctor may recommend a safe antacid to take before your dose of Ocuvite.
Allergic Reactions
-
When your body senses an outside substance has infiltrated your body, your immune system reacts. When your immune system overreacts, its response is known as an allergic reaction. Review your allergies with your doctor and your pharmacist before beginning an Ocuvite regimen. Ingredients in Ocuvite that one may be allergic to include vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, copper, lutein, omega-3, gelatin, fish oil, glycerin, yellow beeswax, silicon dioxide, soy lecithin (which contains peanut oil), caramel color, titanium dioxide, blue #2 lake, yellow #6, and red #40.
Interactions
-
When a drug or supplement you are taking has an effect due to another drug or supplement being introduced, it may cause an unsafe interaction. Ensure that your doctor and pharmacist has a complete list of all medications you are currently taking. Avoid taking Ocuvite at the same time as your thyroid medicine or bisphosphonates. Your doctor or pharmacist can instruct you on a safe time lapse between doses of these medications. Tell your doctor if you have stomach problems, such as colitis, or if you have liver damage due to alcoholism. Furthermore, Ocuvite is transferable in breast milk, so alert your doctor if you are breast feeding before taking Ocuvite.
