Eye Problem With Sinus Infection

There are many different kinds of infections people can get in and around their eyes. Symptoms of an eye infection can be headaches and blurred vision. Sinusitis, a sinus infection, can lead to eye problems.

Identification

• Sinusitis starts with a common cold. The walls of the sinuses get inflamed and swell. Mucus builds up and gets stuck, making a perfect place to grow bacteria and cause an infection.

Location of Sinuses

• The sinuses are located in the bone behind your cheeks, eyebrows and jaw. When these air chambers become infected, it can lead to pain in between the eyes.

Effects on the Eyes

• Eye problems, due to sinusitis, have side effects that include: headaches, swelling of eyelids and swelling around the eyes.

Solution

• The pain and inflammation of the eyes from sinusitis cannot be cleared up with regular eye drops or ointments. Your doctor can suggest antibiotics (for bacterial infection) and pain relievers.

Prevention

• There are a few precautions that the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases recommends to prevent sinusitis and accompanying eye problems. Keep your nose moist, avoid things you're allergic to, stay away from irritants (smoke and chemicals) and avoid very dry indoor environments.
