Eye Exercises for Better Vision

After working all day at a computer, you may find that your eyes feel strained. An inability to focus, near-sightedness and chronically tired eyes are all symptoms of weak eyes. Like all of your muscles, your eyes need to be exercised to be at peak performance levels.
  1. Tired Eyes

    • If you suffer from tired eyes, or eyes that seem to have diminished capacity throughout the day, try an exercise to momentarily rest them throughout your work day. This is especially necessary for those who work with computers. Move a little away from your desk and place your elbows on the surface. Make cups out of your palms, and then rest your eyes into your palms, making sure that no light is able to seep through. Sit in the total darkness for 30 seconds for the best results. This small exercise can give your eyes a rest when they are working too hard.

    Eye Movement

    • Working on your eye movement can make your eyes stronger over time, as well as help tired or sore eyes recoup from a hard day's work. With your eyes closed, look up to the ceiling and then down to the floor. You should be able to feel your eyes straining to do so. Repeat the up-and-down motion three times, and then open your eyes. Close them again, and this time look back and forth, from left to right, three times. Focus on not moving any of your other facial muscles while completing this exercise so the full benefit goes to the eyes.

    Focus Exercise

    • Practicing your focusing ability can help improve some conditional near-sightedness. Stand about 8 feet in front of something discernible and graphic, such as a piece of artwork. Hold your pointer finger about 5 inches from your face. Take a moment to focus clearly on your finger for three seconds. Then slowly slide your focus to the object behind your finger and hold it for three seconds. You can switch focus five times to improve your general focusing abilities.
