Talk to your doctor about how many drops you should be putting into your eye. This is an important step whether you're using prescription or over-the-counter drops.

    • 2

Read the eye drop instructions carefully to ensure you've calculated the right amount of drops to put into your eye.

    • 3

Examine the eye dropper carefully. Make sure it's not damaged in any way. It should be free of all cracks, chips and clogs. If it's damaged, get a new dropper. A damaged dropper could effect your calculation.

Place the eye dropper over the sink and practice letting out one drop at a time. For example, if you've calculated that you need three drops, practice letting out three drops one at a time.

Hold a mirror in front of your face or ask someone to watch you as you use the drops. This will ensure you get the proper amount of drops into your eye. Hold the eye dropper approximately 2 inches away from your eyes and squeeze out the number of drops required.
