How to Crimp Contacts With Crimper

A contact lens crimping tool allows you to reseal or replace seals on a contact lens vial. Contact lenses are are shipped to and stored in optical offices in these containers. Some optometrists use trial lenses for testing contacts on potential contact lens wearers. When the lenses are tried on and removed, they must be cleaned and disinfected and put back into the vials. Knowing how to use a contact crimping tool ensures proper resealing of the vial and keeps lenses sterile.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the rubber stopper into the top of the contact vial that you are sealing with the crimper. Push the stopper in tightly to make sure it is firmly in place.

    • 2

Hold the contact vial tightly in one hand. Place the metal vial cap that is to be sealed on top of the rubber stopper that you just inserted into the vial. The cap sits loosely over the rubber stopper and top of the vial until it is crimped.

    • 3

Continue to hold the contact vial with one hand. Hold the crimping tool, also called a vial crimper, over the top of the vial cap so the open circular end of the crimper is directly above the vial cap and the handles are in position in your other hand.

    • 4

Insert the vial into the open circular part of the crimper or bring the crimper down over the cap and top of the vial. Squeeze the lower handle into the upper handle. The vial cap will seal around the rubber cap.

    • 5

Place the vial on a flat surface and use both hands to compress the crimping tool handles together if you are unable to seal the vial cap with one hand.
