Proven Eye Exercises

The eyes are one of our most important organs. As humans, we depend on our sight more than any other sense. However, our eyes lose their ability to focus due to age and overuse. Luckily, there are eye exercises that can treat eye strain and help improve vision.
  1. Tromboning

    • This method helps improve your eyes' ability to focus. Slowly move a small object back and forth from the tip of your nose to a full arm's length. Inhale and exhale in time with your movements while performing this exercise. Repeat 10 times once a day. This exercise strengthens the muscles that help your eyes focus and control their movement. All About Vision reports that it also helps stimulate nutrient flow inside and around the eyeballs. This improved nutrient flow will help keep your eyes healthy.

    Palming

    • As the eyes are in use throughout the day, they can become tired, strained and painful. Palming helps relax your eyes and relieves the pain that comes from eye strain. Rub your hands together for about 20 seconds or until they feel warm. Cup your hands over your eyes without touching your eyes or putting any pressure on them. Keep your eyes covered for one to two minutes. The darkness and mild heat will bring relief to overworked eyes because they don't have to work as hard when there's no light input to process. This allows them to relax, and the heat of your hands will also soothe the muscles and ease eye strain. Blink if necessary.

    Eye Stretches

    • Eye stretches help stretch the muscles in and around your eyes. They will relax any tenseness in your eyes due to strain, overwork or even exercise. Start by looking up at your eyebrows as far as you can. Then begin moving your eyes in wide circles, keeping them as far from the center as possible during the rotations. Go 10 times in a clockwise direction and then go counterclockwise 10 times. Do this exercise a few times a day. Stretching the muscles in your eyes helps avoid tenseness and fatigue. Tense muscles get sore more quickly. Increasing the flexibility of the muscles will also help increase their range of movement.
