How to Get Your Contact Lens Out of Your Eye When it Rolls Back

Contact lenses are a convenient and a popular choice for those suffering with imperfect vision and often preferred over traditional eye frames and lenses. Although contact lenses sometimes shift and can be improperly positioned upon the eyeball, losing one in the back of your eye is virtually impossible due to a membrane---the conjunctiva--that connects your eye to the back of your eyelid. Although it may feel as if it is lost and has rolled back into your eye, it is easily accessible for removal and there is no need to panic about it.

Instructions

    • 1

Cleanse your hands thoroughly with soap and water before attempting to remove the lens.

    • 2

Position yourself in front of a mirror. If you are over a sink or drain, cover the drain hole with a clean paper towel in case you lose the contact in the sink while removing.

    • 3

Touch the area on your lid where you can feel the contact so you can get an idea of where it is located. Gently lift your upper eyelid to see if you can visually see the lens. If it is still partially over your iris, move your eye sideways and pull down on the lower eyelid.

Use your finger to push the lens onto the bottom white of your eye. If it is already located above the iris, look straight up in the direction of the contact. This will push it back over the iris, so you may gently move it down to the lower white of your eye for removal. Pull down on the lower eyelid and glance sideways to push it to the bottom white of the eye.

Use your thumb and index finger to softly pinch the contact lens together to remove from the eye. Rinse your contact lens thoroughly with cleansing solution before returning it to the eye.
