Black tea is one of the best remedies for ophthalmia. Prepare a strong concentrate of tea with boiling water and allow it to cool a little. When it is at a temperature hot enough to bear, soak a cotton wool pad and apply it on the infected eye. You also can soak a cloth with aloe vera and place over the eye. Cold bread placed on a closed infected eye is another remedy. Some people use an eyewash made with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and ½ cup of water to wash the infected eye. Rutacae is used by blanching and applying on the infected eye with the help of a saturated cotton ball. Warm tea bags on the infected eye are also useful. Salvia is used by grinding, placing on a bandage and applying on the infection. One of the favorite old time remedies is to take a little milk from a breast-feeding mother and dripping inside the infected eye with a dropper or soaked cotton ball. Breast milk is considered a natural antibiotic and has a lot of uses as a home remedy besides just curing an eye infection. A lotion made with honey and water is also considered quite effective as an eye wash. The Bedouins have a few of their own solutions for infected eyes. One is to place a drop of cabbage juice, castor oil, or egg white into the infected eye. Another remedy is to boil 4 tablespoons of ground fennel seeds with 5 cups of water. After the mixture is cooled and drained it is applied on the infected eye with a cotton ball.
