How to Reduce Eye Puffines

Eye puffiness, also referred to as bags under the eyes, is a condition in which the skin underneath the eyes bulges due to swelling. This can happen due to a person's age, sleeping position, diet, allergies, hormonal changes, or genes. Some people experience puffiness around the eyes when it's hot and humid as the heat causes fluid retention. Despite the cause, there are treatments available to reduce under-eye swelling.

Instructions

    • 1

Make an appointment with your physician to determine if an underlying medical condition is causing your eye puffiness. If there is a medical cause, your physician will prescribe treatment.

    • 2

Soothe your eyes with over-the-counter allergy medicine. Puffy eyes are sometimes caused by seasonal allergies. Antihistamines can relieve the eyes and reduce swelling. Eye drops can also ease the discomforts caused by itchy, swollen eyes.

    • 3

Lie down and rest for for 15 minutes with a cold compress over your eyes to help minimize swelling.

    • 4

Sleep with your head elevated. Sleeping with your head slightly raised can stop fluid from building up under your eyes. Get at least eight hours of sleep each night to keep your eyes looking vibrant.

    • 5

Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol because it can cause your body to retain fluids.
