How to Fix Loose Screws in Reading Glasses

Modern eyeglasses use small screws to hold the top and bottom portions of the frames firmly around the lens. Similar small screws are also elsewhere on the frames to join components together. These screws can work loose over time, and should be tightened periodically. Because of the small screw sizes, a small-bladed screwdriver is needed. A magnifying glass can be helpful in completing this repair.

Most eyeglass stores will perform this repair as a courtesy to eyeglass wearers.

• Piece of white paper or cloth

  Procure an eyeglass repair kit. These are commonly available at eyeglass stores, pharmacies, supermarkets and other retailers. They are relatively inexpensive.

  Place a sheet of white paper or cloth on a flat work surface. The white paper will make it easier to find any dropped screws.

  Using the screwdriver enclosed in the repair kit, tighten the screw firmly. If you have trouble seeing the screw, most kits have a magnifying glass included.

  Check all the remaining screws for tightness.
