How to Remove Protein From Soft Contact Lens

Contact lenses will eventually develop a film or coating of protein. The type of lenses you wear, how long you wear them and the amount of protein in your tears will affect the amount of build-up. There are steps you can take to regularly remove protein from your contact lenses.

Things You'll Need

• Daily cleaning solution
• Regular daily disinfecting and storing solution
• Daily protein remover
• Saline
• Storage case
• Enzymatic cleaner

  Fill both sides of a lens storage case with disinfecting and storing solution.

  Remove your right lens. Clean the lens with your regular cleaning solution and rinse.

  Add a drop of daily protein remover to each side of the lens and put the lens in the storage case. Repeat with left lens. Soak overnight as usual.

  Rinse lenses with saline or rinsing solution before wearing.

  Clean with weekly enzymatic cleaner if daily protein remover does not completely clear lenses.

  Clean and rinse your contacts as usual prior to enzymatic cleaner. Fill your case with storage solution, dissolve an enzymatic tablet in each side and add your contacts. Leave them in for the required time, usually 15 minutes. Rinse before wearing.
