How to Wear Progressive Lenses

Progressive lenses are sometimes referred to as no-line or invisible bifocals because they don't have noticeable lines. The area where the prescription changes from distance to near is blurry for some people, especially at first. Steps can be taken to make it easier for you to wear progressive lenses.

Instructions

    • 1

Wear your new lenses as much as possible. The more you keep on your new progressive lenses, the quicker and easier your eyes will adjust to your new prescription.

    • 2

Turn your head, not just your eyes, toward what you want to read. Remember to point with your nose in the direction of your close work.

    • 3

Move your head vertically until what you want to read comes into focus. The progressive lens is shaped like a mountain in the bottom of your lens and things will look clearer if you look through the middle of the no-line bifocal.

    • 4

Push your glasses up as high as possible on the bridge of your nose. Progressive lenses are measured to fit with the power of the no-line bifocal starting just below your pupil. If they slip down, you won't be getting the full benefit of the lenses.

    • 5

Don't wear your old glasses. Adjusting to new progressive lenses is much more difficult if you continue to also use your old prescription or regular bifocals with lines.
