The Exercise
-
This exercise is simple and can be done in a very short period of time. First, print a copy of the image found at RebuildYourVision.com. (It is linked in References.) You also can use the image on your computer screen, or make your own version. Get a pencil; you may use a pen instead. Sit in a chair about 1 to 2 feet away from the picture. You can either hang it on a wall or use it on your computer screen. If you can't quite see the picture perfectly clear, that's OK. Just make sure you can at least make it out. Hold the pencil vertically between the two circles in the image. Keep the top of the pencil level with the top of the circles. Focus your eyes on the pencil. Slowly bring the pencil toward your face, focusing on it the entire way. As the pencil gets closer, the two circles will start to look like three circles. As soon as the circles appear to be the same size and shape, stop moving the pencil. Change your focus from the pencil to the center circle. If you don't succeed immediately, don't get frustrated. You will get it eventually. Staying focused on the center circle, and move your pencil away from yourself and closer to the image. Eventually, the circles will appear three dimensional. They should resemble the image of staring down into a cup.
How Does This Exercise Help?
-
This exercise helps improve your focus and trains your eyes to focus on different objects at different times. Loss of focus is a common problem with the eyes. Nearsightedness and farsightedness are eye problems in which the eye cannot focus well on objects at a far or close distance. This exercise can help train your eyes to focus more fully on objects and may help strengthen your eyes.
