Herbal Eye Wash for Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a disease that includes conditions that result in damage to the optic nerve. Pressure in the eye at high levels is a common cause of the disease. Add 1 tsp. each of eyebright, goldenseal and bayberry bark with one half of a tsp. of cayenne pepper in one cup of boiling water. Allow the mixture to steep for about 10 minutes. Strain the liquid carefully to avoid getting dried herbs in your eye.
Using an Eye Wash

You can find eyewash cups in most pharmacies. Rinse the cups out completely before adding your herbal solution. Add the solution to the cups and hold the cup against your eye. The eyewash cup should adhere to your eye, but hold on to the cup. Tip your head back or lie down and allow the solution to cover your eye. It is not necessary to move the cup around. To wash your entire eye, look to the sides and then up and down until your entire eye has been washed by the herbal solution.
When your eye has been cleaned by the herbal solution, tip your head back down, or sit up and allow the solution to pour back into the cup.
The herbal solution that is recommended for glaucoma may sting a bit, but it will not cause damage to your eyes.

Use your herbal eyewash three times a day to help relieve the pain of glaucoma and to remedy the condition. Herbal medicine is not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration and is not a proven treatment for glaucoma. This herbal eye was should not be a substitute for your eye care professional.
