What Are Progressive Contact Lens?
Progressive contact lenses, also known as multifocal lenses, are designed to correct combinations of vision problems such as myopia, presbyopia and other eye disorders. They incorporate a gradient of increasing lens power, adjusted according to the wearer's particular correction requirements.-
Progressive Lens Designs
-
In the progressive contact lens design for rigid gas permeable lenses, there are distinct zones for distance and near vision. Much like bifocal eyeglasses, the top section of the lens is for distance while the bottom is for near vision. The two areas of the lens are separated by a barely noticeable line to assist in fitting the lenses adequately.
Vision Features
-
Progressive styles of contact lenses correct a variety of disorders, making them the best choice for people with combination vision problems. Distance, near and astigmatism disorders may all be corrected within one lens.
Soft and Rigid Gas Permeable
-
Soft progressive contact lenses are comfortable and available in disposable varieties for daily, weekly and monthly wear. Rigid gas permeable progressive lenses are usually slightly less comfortable to wear, but can last longer.
Hybrid
-
Hybrid progressive contact lenses include a rigid center with a soft periphery for comfort while correcting a wide variety of vision disorders. It's easy to adapt to these, but can be challenging for practitioners to fit properly.
Bifocal and Toric
-
Bifocal contact lenses come in soft and rigid versions to correct myopia and presbyopia. Toric progressive contact lenses correct astigmatism.
