Foods That Lower Risk for Eye Problems

A proactive stance towards eye health includes a proper selection of foods in a daily diet, as there are foods that lower the risk of developing eye problems. The good news is that all of these foods are available at the local grocery store.
  1. Carrots

    • Through the years carrots have been synonymous with eye health. Carrots are rich in vitamin A, a nutrient that is fundamental to overall eye health and proper functioning of the retina.

    Avocados

    • Cataracts and macular degeneration are two of the most common types of eye diseases facing people as they age. Avocados are a good choice, boasting demonstrable benefits in lowering the risk of these two conditions. They are rich in lutein, which scientific research demonstrates is effective in preventing the onset of cataracts and macular degeneration. More lutein is found in a serving of avocado than in any other fruit. They also contain other nutrients that are important to overall eye health, including vitamins A and C.

    Sunflower Seeds

    • As people age, cataracts can become a debilitating condition. But there appears to be a connection between consumption of selenium and lower cataract risk. Sunflower seeds contain selenium, so they are a good addition to a diet.
