Boric Acid Eye Infection

Eye infections, like pink eye, can be painful and sometimes even harmful to your eye. You should not leave these conditions untreated, and you can use boric acid to make a home remedy.
  1. Effects

    • Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, causes the lining of your eye lid and eyeball to become inflamed. When this happens, blood vessels in your eye will expand and give your eye a red appearance.

    Identification

    • Symptoms of pink eye include a burning or feeling of sand in the eye, dryness, itchiness and sensitivity to light.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Use boric acid to make a home eye wash by mixing 1 cup of boiled water with 1 tsp. of boric acid and 10 drops of golden seal tincture. It is important to let the mixture cool before use and to let it dry in your eye and rinse afterward. Do this at least three times a day with an eye dropper, eye cup or cotton swab.

    Warning

    • Mixing the right amount of water and boric acid is important. Too much water can render the mixture ineffective and too much boric acid can turn into an eye irritant instead of a treatment.

    Considerations

    • Do not use the solution for any part of your face other than your eyes. This solution should not be used in your ears, nose or mouth. Do not use it around any skin wounds or while wearing your contact lenses.
