Can Colloidal Silver Water Get Rid of Pink Eye?
Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, describes the inflammation of the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is the membrane lining the eyelid and a part of the eyeball. When this transparent film is inflamed, blood cells swell up and cause a pink or red color in the white of the affected eye. This contagious condition, usually caused by bacterial or viral infection, can be treated with antibiotics. Some claim that colloidal silver water is also an effective conjunctivitis treatment.-
Colloidal Silver Water
-
You may find this product at alternative health stores, often advertised as a dietary supplement or alternative remedy. Colloidal silver water is simply silver molecules suspended in fluid. Companies marketing this product claim that it can kill bacteria and viruses, as well as treat conditions such as cancer, AIDS, syphilis, tuberculosis, pneumonia and conjunctivitis.
Reality
-
Colloidal silver water has no proven effect on any medical condition. In fact, silver serves no purpose in the human body. Any claim that colloidal silver water treats "silver deficiency" is spurious, as the body contains no biological supply of silver. Colloidal silver water should in no way be considered effective treatment for conjunctivitis or any condition. In fact, excess silver in the bloodstream can cause a condition, argyria, that permanently discolors the body and skin a blue-gray tint.
Medical Treatment
-
Instead of colloidal silver water, which will have no positive effect on your pink eye, talk to your doctor about a medically supported option. This may include antibiotic drops, antibiotic ointment or anti-inflammatory medications.
