Isometh/Apap/Dichlor Side Effects

Dichlor, also known as Isometh, Apap, and Dichlorphenamide, is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used in the treatment of glaucoma. This medication has also been used as an anticonvulsant to control seizures from epilepsy. As with most medications, there are a number of side effects associated with using this medication.

Common Side Effects

• Some of these side effects include unusual tiredness and weakness, bloody urine, depression, lower back pain, difficulty urinating, painful urination, and a sudden decrease in the amount of urine. While these are considered the most common side effects associated with using Dichlor, they only affect a small number of users.

Severe Side Effects

• Some severe side effects include bloody or black stools, unsteadiness, seizures, confusion, hives, fever, skin rashes, skin irritation, pale stools, muscle weakness, sore throat, yellowing of the skin and eyes, increased thirst, irregular heartbeats, muscle cramps, nausea and vomiting. These side effects are also very rare and do not affect a large number of users.

Important Safety Information

• Dichlor has been known to cause increased dizziness and drowsiness. As a result, it is recommended that users do not operate any type of machinery while using this medication. Tell your doctor if you are allergic or have ever had an allergic reaction to any food or medication before beginning use of Dichlor. This medication may also be excreted in breast milk, so please use extreme caution if you are taking this medication while breast feeding.

Usage

• Always use this medication in direct conjunction with your doctor's orders and never in dosages larger than what has been recommended on the label. This medication is administered in pill form and should always be taken with food to avoid an upset stomach. Take this medication with breakfast as soon as you wake up as this medication has been known to cause insomnia if taken at night. Dosages will vary depending on the patient, so consult with your doctor about the best treatment method.
