Travoprost is a prescription medication that is used to treat symptoms of the eye disorder glaucoma. It also treats symptoms of various other eye-related diseases, such as ocular hypertension. Travoprost manages high levels of pressure inside of the eyes. Decreasing pressure inside of the eyes helps in stopping blindness from occurring. It comes in eye drop form. There are several possible side effects that could happen due to taking Travoprost.

Common Side Effects

• There are various common Travoprost side effects. These side effects tend to be minor, since they usually go away as the eyes adjust to the drops. However, if you find these side effects particularly bothersome or persistent, you should notify your doctor. These side effects include blurry vision, eyes that are bloodshot, feeling like there is something inside of your eye, eyelash growth changes, more tear production, dryness of the eyes, discomfort, itching and headache.

Serious Side Effects

• Serious side effects are unlikely but possible with Travoprost use as well. If you should notice any signs of serious side effects, you need to seek emergency medical attention. These possibly harmful side effects are slow heartbeat, changes in vision, crusting of the eye or the eyelid, chest ache, inflammation, swelling, pain, discharge, irritation, the eye color or the eyelids becoming darker, and extreme dizziness or headache.

Allergic Reactions

• There are some severe allergic reactions that could also take place with Travoprost use. If you have an allergic reaction to these eye drops, you need to get immediate medical help. Some signs of allergic reaction to this medication are chest tightness, skin rash, hives, trouble with breathing, itching, and swelling of the tongue, mouth, lips and face.

Pregnant and Breastfeeding Females

• Travoprost can lead to miscarriages in animals. As a result, pregnant women are advised against using these eye drops for the safety of their unborn babies. Also, it is unconfirmed as to whether Travoprost is excreted into human breast milk. Therefore, nursing women should discuss Travoprost use with their doctor beforehand.

Caution

• Certain types of people should use Travoprost eye drops with extra caution. These people include those who have swelling in the macular area of their eye as well as those who have iris inflammation.
