Pinkeye Cures

Another common name for pinkeye is conjunctivitis. Pinkeye can be found anywhere on the eyelid or in the eye. The affected area turns pink, which is where it got its name, and it can itch and burn. Pinkeye is contagious, so if you are suffering from it, do not touch your eye. Washing your hands frequently can help keep you from spreading pinkeye to your other eye or to someone else. You can take action to get rid of the pinkeye.
  1. Hot Water

    • Wet a washcloth with water, as hot as you can stand. Wring the excess water out. Place the washcloth on your affected eye. Leave the wash cloth on until it cools off. Do this once every few hours. The heat will draw out any puss or dirt that is causing the pinkeye. This will help the eye to heal much faster.

    Antibiotics

    • Visit your eye doctor or family physician to see if you need an antibiotic. If your pinkeye is caused by a bacteria, an antibiotic will kill the bacteria. You may be prescribed a liquid antibiotic that can be dripped into your eye, or you may need to take the antibiotic in pill form. Only your eye doctor or physician can prescribe this for you. You should begin to see improvements after 24 hours.

    Antihistamines

    • If your pinkeye is a result of allergies, take an antihistamine to cure it. You can purchase the generic brand or a name brand, such as Benadryl. Always follow the included dosing instructions and be aware that antihistamines can make some people drowsy. You may also want to use the hot water while you are waiting for the allergy medication to take effect. Once your pinkeye clears up, stay away from the triggers that cause your allergies to flare up.
