Side Effects of Combigan
Combigan is an alpha-agonist medication, made up of brimonidine and timolol, that is used as a means to reduce fluids in the eyes, which then subsequently reduces pressure on the eyes. As with most other medications, there are a variety of side effects that can come as a result of use.-
Common Side Effects

There are a number of common side effects that can occur as a result of using Combigan. These include mild burning or itching of the eyes, dry eyes, blurred vision, weakness, puffiness of the eye, cough, upset stomach, nausea, headache, drowsiness, sensitivity to light, dry nose and an unusual taste in your mouth.
Severe Side Effects

Unfortunately, there are also some severe side effects that can come as a result of using Combigan. Some of these symptoms include severe swelling, burning or itching around the treated eye, chest tightness or trouble breathing, fluttering heartbeats, slow heart rates, lightheadedness, muscle weakness, and confusion or hallucinations.

You should never use Combigan if you are allergic to either brimonidine or timolol and should consult a physician immediately if you have taken the drug and have either of these allergies. Make sure to alert your doctor prior to using the drug if you have any of the following ailments: asthma, heart disease, heart failure, slow heartbeats or a heart condition known as AV Block. Also tell your doctor if you suffer from depression, diabetes or an overactive thyroid before beginning use of the drug.

In order to avoid some of the above side effects, it is important to use the drug correctly. Always take the drug in conjunction with doctor's orders and do not exceed dosage instructions. Because Combigan is an eye drop, always wash your hands thoroughly before use. To apply the drops, tilt your head back, pull down your lower eyelid and insert the drop into your eyeball.
