Natural Dry Eye Cure
When you suffer from dry eyes, it is often due to a change in the fluid production of your tear ducts. This can disrupt one of the layers that make up the "tear film" that normally covers your eyes. When this happens, dry patches can develop, causing you to experience stinging or burning sensations, as well as blurring, fatigue or irritation of the eye. To combat dry eyes, there are a number of natural measures you can put into place from the comfort of your home.-
Heat Therapy
-
Heat therapy should be one of the first things you try to counter dry eyes. Take a washcloth and submerge it in hot---but not scalding---water, giving the fabric enough time to heat, usually one minute. Close your eyes and place the moistened washcloth over your eyelids, letting it permeate the area for between five and 10 minutes. By heating the lids of your eyes, you're opening the oil glands so they can secrete more fluid and naturally moisten the eyes.
Environmental Care
-
It is also important to look at any environmental factors that could be contributing to your dry eyes. Within both your home and your car, fans and heating and cooling units can cause your eyes to dry out, so ensure that air vents and ducts are never directed at your eyes.
Run a humidifier in any room where you spend a great deal of time. Bedrooms, home offices and living rooms are ideal locations to house a small humidifier that can replace much-needed moisture in the air and combat dry eyes.
Weather can also take quite a toll on the fluid levels of your eyes, so wear some sort of protective gear each time you head outdoors. Sunglasses can protect your eyes from both sun and wind, while goggles keep chlorine and polluted water from affecting your eyes. Even throwing on a hat before you hit the backyard can go a long way toward maintaining the moisture of your "tear film."
Blinking
-
While this may not sound like much of a cure, blinking adequately can be effective in treating dry eyes. When you work on almost anything, especially those activities that take a great deal of concentration, the number of blinks you take within a given period of time often decreases, causing eyes to dry out. To remedy this, make a conscious effort to blink; over time, it will become second nature.
Natural Tears
-
If these measures fail to produce results, consider turning to a "natural tears" product. Though not as natural as other methods, natural tears effectively moisten the eyes and can be administered anytime, often curbing dryness before it starts.
