How to Stop Amblyopia
Commonly referred to as lazy eye, amblyopia is an eye condition where an eye does not see images clearly. Eventually, the brain chooses to shut out the vision in the eye that does not see clearly and favors the other eye. Uncorrected, the amblyopia causes a permanent decrease in vision. The decreased vision is not correctable with glasses, surgery or contact lenses. Early detection and treatment is important because the condition is more difficult to treat as a person ages.Instructions

1
Wear prescription glasses to strengthen vision in the lazy eye.
-
2
Patch the good eye. Determine the amount of time depending on the degree of vision loss and age of the child. Over time, the patch will force the brain to use the lazy eye and strengthen it.
-
3
Avoid over use of the eye patch over the good eye. Blocking vision in the good eye can cause amblyopia to occur.
-
4
Instill prescription atropine eye drops in good eye to blur vision daily or several times a week. Do this as an alternative to patching.
