Dry Eyes Remedy

Dry eyes are known to optometrists as being the most popular complaint among their patients. It is estimated that 33 million people suffer from some degree of eye dryness. Though it can often be a related to other health problems, an effective dry eyes remedy can help relieve your discomfort while any other conditions are being treated.
  1. Humidifier

    • Using a humidifier in your home can help keep the air moist, which will help keep your eyes from drying out. This is especially true during the winter when the air tends to be drier in some areas. These machines may be used throughout the night, especially if you tend to sleep with your eyes partially open. Some people find it beneficial to keep a humidifier running during the day as well.

    Eye Drops

    • Artificial tears are one of the most common dry eye remedies. These drops made of saline and are designed to provide temporary relief to eyes that are dried out. However, some over-the-counter products have been known to create a film over the eye or even damage to the cornea.

    Massage

    • Massaging your eyelids a few times each day will help stimulate the tear glands. Gently rubbing the top and bottom lids for 2 to 3 minutes can help keep your eyes moist and alleviate the dryness.

    Blinking

    • Though blinking is an involuntary response, some of us do not do it as often as we should. Become aware of how much you blink and increase the activity if you feel any dryness occurring. Increased blinking is also recommended if you are watching TV, playing on a computer or any other action that requires a good deal of visual concentration. Rest your eyes throughout the day by closing them for 1 full minute. This, along with blinking, will help distribute tears evenly around the eye and prevent it from drying out.
