Who is an opthalmist?

An ophthalmologist is a medical professional who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. They are medical doctors who have completed medical school and then gone on to complete additional specialized training in ophthalmology. Ophthalmologists are trained to perform eye examinations, diagnose and treat eye diseases, and perform eye surgery. They can prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses, and they can also perform laser surgery and other surgical procedures to correct vision problems. Ophthalmologists are the primary eye care providers for most people, and they work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as optometrists and opticians, to provide comprehensive eye care.
