Common Eye Problems

* Astigmatism:

A condition in which the cornea or lens is not perfectly curved, causing blurred vision.

* Blepharitis:

Inflammation of the eyelids, often caused by a bacterial infection. Symptoms include red, itchy eyelids and crusty eyelashes.

* Cataracts:

A clouding of the lens of the eye, which can cause blurred vision, glare, and difficulty seeing in low light.

* Conjunctivitis (pink eye):

Inflammation of the conjunctiva, the clear membrane that lines the eyelid and covers the white part of the eye. Symptoms include redness, itching, and discharge.

* Diabetic retinopathy:

Damage to the blood vessels in the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. It is a complication of diabetes and can lead to vision loss.

* Glaucoma:

A group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, which carries visual information from the eye to the brain. Symptoms include loss of peripheral vision, blurred vision, and pain.

* Macular degeneration:

A condition in which the macula, the central part of the retina, degenerates. It is the leading cause of vision loss in people over the age of 50. Symptoms include blurry central vision, difficulty seeing fine details, and problems with color perception.

* Strabismus (crossed eyes):

A condition in which the eyes do not align properly, causing one eye to look inward or outward. It can occur in children and adults.

* Stye:

A small, red, painful bump on the eyelid caused by a bacterial infection.
