What is the meaning of near - sighted in easy wording?
Near -sighted means you can see things that are close to you clearly, but things that are far away are blurry.
When you are near-sighted, the eyeball is too long, or the cornea ( the round front cover of the eye) is too curved. This makes the light bend too much and focus in front of the retina ( the light-sensitive tissue in the back of the eye), not directly on it.
When the focusing point is in front of the retina, you see nearby things clearly, but distant objects appear blurred.
Here is an example to help you understand:
Imagine you are in a classroom. If you are near - sighted, you can read the words on the paper clearly when it is close to your eyes. However if the teacher writes something on the white board at the front of the classroom , you might have difficulty reading it because it is far away.
Symptoms of nearsightedness include:
* Difficulty seeing objects in the distance
* Eye strain
* Squinting
* Headaches
