Will reading glasses help you if have myopia?
Reading glasses, also known as magnifying glasses, convex lenses, or simple magnifiers, are lenses used to magnify text or small objects. They are often used by people who have difficulty seeing things up close. Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a condition in which distant objects appear blurry while close objects are clear.
To correct vision in myopia, concave lenses, also called diverging lenses, are typically used. These lenses help focus distant objects on the retina, making them appear clear. Concave lenses are usually prescribed in the form of eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Reading glasses, on the other hand, have convex lenses, meaning they cause light to converge (focus) at a near point. While reading glasses can temporarily improve the ability to see things up close for individuals with myopia, they are not a suitable correction for the condition. They may provide temporary relief for nearsighted individuals engaged in close activities like reading, but their use is not recommended as the primary means to correct myopia.
