Why is your hair never the same color as eyes?

Hair and eye colour are determined by different genes.

Eye colour is primarily determined by the amount and distribution of melanin in the iris, produced by cells called melanocytes. Melanin is responsible for the brown, green, blue, and hazel colours of eyes. Factors like genetics, amount of melanin, and light scattering within the iris contribute to eye colour variation.

On the other hand, hair colour is determined by the type and concentration of melanin in the hair follicles. The two main types of melanin involved in hair colour are eumelanin, which gives brown or black shades, and pheomelanin, which contributes to red or blonde tones. Different combinations and ratios of these pigments result in the diverse range of hair colours we see.

Since eye and hair colour are influenced by different genes and mechanisms, it's not uncommon for individuals to have mismatched eye and hair colours. This can add to the natural diversity and uniqueness of human appearances.
