Why do i have what looks like a mole in my eye?
A dark spot in your eye may not actually be a mole. Many eye conditions can appear similar to a mole, including:
Freckle: A small, flat brown spot on the surface of the eye that is usually harmless.
Nevus: A noncancerous growth of cells that can appear brown or black and can occur on the surface or inside the eye.
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD): A condition that affects the central part of the retina and can cause a variety of symptoms, including dark spots in the vision.
Retinal detachment: A serious condition that occurs when the retina separates from the back of the eye and can cause a variety of symptoms, including dark spots or floaters in the vision.
Choroidal melanoma: A rare type of eye cancer that can appear as a dark spot in the eye and can be difficult to distinguish from other eye conditions.
It is important to see an eye doctor if you notice a dark spot in your eye, especially if it is new, changing, or accompanied by other symptoms. The eye doctor can determine the cause of the spot and recommend appropriate treatment if necessary.
