What tools do eye doctors use?

Ophthalmoscope:

An ophthalmoscope allows the eye doctor to see a magnified view of the retina ,the optic nerve, and other internal structures of the eye.

Autorefractor:

This instruments measures your eyes' overall prescription as well as the curvature of your cornea.

Slit Lamp:

A Slit Lamp is designed to create a high intensity thin line of light and is most often used on the front suface of the eye.

Tonometer:

Measure the preasure that builds upon the eye. Increased eye pressure could signal various issues from eye injury/trauma

to medical conditions such as a glaucoma that could damage the optic nerve if left

untreated.

Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT):

Uses light source to take cross-sectional imanges for a very in depth and three-dimentonal look on various layers within the eye including the retina choroid, lens.

Pachymeter:

This measures corneal thickness which can detect eye disease and complications or even be a determining

factor to whether or not one is a fit candidate for corrective eye surgery such LASIK and PRK,
