How to Remove Non-Glare Coating From Eyeglasses

It can be an "eyesore" to look at or through glasses with a nonglare coating that is peeling. A peeling coat not only makes your glasses look like they haven't been cleaned, but it can interrupt your ability to see through them. A peeling or nonpeeling, nonglare coat can be removed from plastic or polycarbonate lenses. Glass lenses are especially sensitive, so a nonglare coat should only be removed from these types of lenses by a professional optometrist.

Instructions

    • 1

Put vinyl gloves on your hands. Open up a window and ventilate the room, or work outside.

    • 2

Pour a drop of Armour Etch, a glass-etching cream, on the lens. Armour Etch is available at many arts and crafts stores and online. This product should not be used to remove a nonglare coating from glass lenses -- only plastic or polycarbonate lenses.

    • 3

Rub the Armour Etch into the lens with your finger or a cotton swab to remove the antiglare coating.

    • 4

Rinse the glasses in warm water to remove the Armour Etch residue. Reapply more Armour Etch, and repeat the process of removing the antiglare coating if necessary.

    • 5

Dry the eyeglasses with a clean, soft cloth.
