Difference Between Acuvue 2 & Acuvue Advance

Acuvue is a brand of contact lenses that offers diverse disposable contact lens products for both near and far-sighted individuals. Two of the Acuvue brand families are Acuvue 2 and Acuvue Advance. Acuvue 2 brand family consists of the products Acuvue 2 and Acuvue Colours. Acuvue Advance brand family consists of the following types: Acuvue Advance Plus, Acuvue Advance with Hydraclear and Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism. While Acuvue 2 and Acuvue Advance brand families have many similarities, there are certain features that set them apart.
  1. Replacement

    • You can wear Acuvue 2 contact lenses daily for two weeks and then replace them with a new pair. You will need to remove the lenses and clean them daily. If you want to wear Acuvue 2 contact lenses overnight without removing or cleaning them, you can wear them for up to six nights and then dispose of them. Acuvue Advance lenses should be worn daily and replaced after two weeks. You will need to remove the lenses at the end of each day and clean them.

    UV Protection

    • The contact lenses within the Acuvue 2 and the Acuvue Advance brand families have different UV protection classifications. Acuvue Advance Plus, Acuvue Advance with Hydraclear and Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism are manufactured to block out at least 90% of UV-A and 99% of UV-B radiation from the sun. The lenses are classified as Class 1, which is the highest class of UV protection. Acuvue 2 Colours and Acuvue 2 lenses are both classified as Class 2 lenses, which means that they block out up to 82% of UV-A and 97% of UV-B radiation.

    Technology

    • Acuvue 2 contact lenses are made with a hydrogel material known as etafilcon A, which is meant to increase eye comfort and allows for 88% of available oxygen to pass through the lens and reach your eye. Acuvue Advance contact lenses are made with a silicone hydrogel material known as galyfilcon A, which allows for 97% of available oxygen to reach your eyes. Unlike Acuvue 2 contact lenses, Acuvue Advance contact lenses have an added moisture-rich wetting agent. Acuvue Advance contact lenses are made with a hydraclear technology that works to keep the lenses from drying out. Acuvue Advance Plus contact lenses have an added ultra-clean technology that keeps the lenses smooth and free of the buildup of deposits.

    Common Features

    • All of the contact lenses within the Acuvue 2 and the Acuvue Advance brand families have a light blue tint to them. The tint is to help you spot them in your lens case or locate them if you accidentally drop them on the ground. All of the contact lenses also have an inside-out mark on each lens to help you identify which side of the lens should touch your eye upon insertion.
