How to Find Frames to Fit Lenses

Finding new frames for your old lenses may take some extra time, but it can save you the cost of new lenses that you would otherwise incur with an eyeglass purchase. This method is especially helpful if your style preference changes more often than your prescription or if your old frames met an untimely end. Look for frames that fit the size and shape of your lenses and seek professional help to determine whether you've found a good fit.

Instructions

Look on the inside of the bridge and arms of your eyeglasses for three numbers. Take note of the first two numbers. The first number represents your lens width and the second represents the bridge width. Measure the lens height with a ruler.

Go to an optometrist and ask an associate to show you frames with the same bridge size, within 2 mm, and the same lens size as your current glasses. If your lenses are standard (not progressive or bifocals), you can also look at frames made for smaller lenses. The optometrist can cut your old lenses to fit your new frames.

Try on various styles and decide which suits you best. Confirm with the optometrist that your old lenses will fit and ask to make the swap.
