How to Get Powdered Cement Out of Your Eye
Men and women working in construction fields are exposed to daily dangers. This is especially true when working with corrosive materials such as powdered cement. The eyes are especially vulnerable to exposure to corrosive materials, and while any eye injury can be frightening, an injury of this nature should be dealt with quickly. Should cement particles or dust get into the eye, quick attention and treatment can prevent damage or blindness.Things You'll Need
- Eyewash station (if available)
- Saline solution or tap water
Instructions

-
1
Brush any excess particles away from your face, and wash your hands.
-
2
Flush the eye, continuously, with running water for a period of 15 to 30 minutes. This can be done using an eyewash station, if available; sterile saline solution; or running tap water. Be sure to keep the eye as wide open as possible.
-
3
Call 911 if you are alone, or have another person drive you to an emergency room or ophthalmologist office.
-
4
Remove contact lenses, if worn, after an initial flushing. If it is too painful, leave the lens in the eye for an eye care professional to remove.
-
5
Flush the eye until you receive medical attention.
-
6
Follow all instructions given by an ophthalmologist for aftercare. Cement is corrosive and can cause serious, sometimes permanent, damage and even blindness, if not properly treated.
