How to Get Used to Wearing Progressive Lenses

Progressive lenses are designed to make it possible to easily focus from distance to near. This type of lens eliminates the need for traditional bifocals that have visible lines. At first, progressive lenses require a period of adjustment for new wearers. It can take anywhere from several days to a few weeks to become adjusted to the lenses. With a few basic techniques, you can train your eyes to get used to wearing progressive lenses in little to no time.

Instructions

    • 1

Wear your progressive lenses for as long as possible to get adjusted to them. There may be symptoms at first such as dizziness or headaches. If you experience any of these symptoms, remove your eyeglasses for an hour, then put them back on.

    • 2

Move your head to see objects when you are wearing progressive lenses. If you only move your eyes without moving your head, the object will appear blurry. This happens because you are looking through the blurry area of the lens.

    • 3

Point your nose in the direction of the object on which your focused. When moving your head, do so slightly instead of abruptly to prevent a distorted image.

    • 4

Adjust the nose pads on your eyeglasses for more comfort. They can either be expanded by slightly pushing them apart or by squeezing them closer together.
