How to Repair Cracked Glasses

Though modern eyeglasses are built to endure everyday wear and tear, accidents can and will happen. Whether you sat on your pair while getting into your car or dropped them down a flight of stairs, chances are the nose bridge or frame has cracked. Instead of running out and buying a replacement pair, you can mend your broken ones using tools from around the house. Consult your optician for more severe damage, like a cracked lens.

Instructions

  1. Repairing a Cracked Nose Bridge

    • 1

Place the glasses on a firm, flat surface. If the bridge is completely cracked in half, push the nose bridge together so the glasses appear normal.

    • 2

Squirt a small bead of cyanoacrylate glue over the cracked part of the bridge.

    • 3

Spread the glue over the top, bottom and sides of the nose bridge with a small paintbrush.

    • 4

Push the glasses together using firm pressure for five minutes as the glue hardens.

    Repairing Cracked Frames

    • 5

Push the lens out of the cracked frame with your thumbs.

    • 6

Orient the glasses so that the cracked part of the frame faces upward.

    • 7

Apply a small bead of cyanoacrylate to the cracked part of the frame. If necessary, spread the glue with a small paintbrush.

    • 8

Push the frame together and hold it steady for five minutes.

    • 9

Allow the glue to cure overnight before replacing the lens.
