How to Get a Contact Lens Out That You Cannot See

It is common for contact lenses to become excessively dry and slide under your eyelid out of view. Finding this "lost" contact in your eye can be easy. And don't panic -- the inner lining of the eyelid called the conjunctiva protects the eye and makes it impossible for the contact to go behind the eyeball.

Instructions

    • 1

Shine the flashlight on the sink and the surrounding area. It is important to make sure the contact lens did not fall out of your eye. The light reflecting on the lens will make it easier to recognize.

    • 2

Close the sink drain in the bathroom. This will stop your contact lens from washing down the drain.

    • 3

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching your eyes. It is vital not to put any unwanted germs in your eyes.

    • 4

Look closely in the mirror and use your index finger to raise your eyelid. The contact lens could be just off center and noticed quickly.

    • 5

Place several drops of saline or re-wetting solution in the corner of your eye. This may loosen the contact lens and allow it to move freely again.

    • 6

Close your eye and softly move your index finger on top of your eyelid. This may loosen the contact lens from its hidden position.

    • 7

Open your eye and gently pull the outside corner of your eye with your index finger. Blink several times for the lens to pop out or move down into sight on your cornea.

    • 8

Move the contact lens into place softly with your fingertip.

    • 9

When the contact has been successfully located, remove the lens from your eye.
