How to Glue Eyeglass Temple Pieces

If Ralphie from "A Christmas Story" had known the secret to repairing glasses with glue, he might not have been so worried about his mother's reaction when he stepped on his glasses and broke them. You can repair the temple, the part of the frame that goes over your ear, with fast-drying glue. Although the repair is temporary, gluing the temple is an easy fix to get you by until you can replace it.

Instructions

Cover both your lenses with plastic wrap. Completely encircle the entire front of the frames by wrapping the plastic around the frame front and lenses several times. Alternately, you may use a small towel and wrap it around the front of the frame to cover the lenses.

Remove any old adhesive from previous repairs. Use a small nail file or emery board to carefully scrape and file off any remnants of old glue.

    • 3

Place a small amount of fast-drying glue on the tip of a toothpick and dab the glue in several places onto the inside edge of one piece of the broken temple. Match up the other piece of temple and press the two together, holding firmly but not too tight for about a minute. Remove one hand and check to see if the glue is holding.

Lay the glasses down gently on a table top or surface and reapply glue to the toothpick. Dab a little more glue around the repaired crack in the temple for extra hold. Let the glasses sit for a few minutes or the recommended drying time for the brand of glue you use.
